First Dentist Visit

Last Thursday the girls had their first visit with the dentist. This visit was very laid back, and pretty much just looking at their teeth, and letting them brush with a tooth brush. We have been brushing their teeth every morning and every night since they have had 2 teeth, so we were hoping for good news but knew we would also be getting the do's and don't lecture. The girls don't have any cavities so that is good news, and we were pretty much doing everything right, except that we were brushing their teeth at night during bath time and then letting them have a drink of pediasure from their cups right before bed. The dentist said brushing their teeth needs to be the very last thing we do right before bed and then only water afterwards. He said baby teeth rot so much faster, so we have made that little adjustment to help prevent any future cavities. The dentist also informed me that the Flovent inhaler the girls started 2 weeks ago, is HORRIBLE for teeth. He said to brush their teeth as soon as we use it because the medicine it decays the teeth faster than you can imagine. That was good to know because that isn't something our pediatrician or pharmacy told us.

Our dentist office is decorated so cute with a jungle theme, and there are about 10 beds in this main room and all beds have their own little flat screen TV on the ceiling. I had just laid Brittyn down to see if she would cooperate, and she immediately spotted her TV.

Lexyn was a little more nervous and screamed when Gamma laid her on the bed. The tech then gave her a tooth brush to help calm her down.

She showed the tech how she can brush her teeth. We usually give them the tooth brush to play with/brush with before we take it from them and do a good tooth brushing.

Brittyn wasn't sure she wanted to let her tech brush her teeth. She is too independent to do that, she has to first put up a good fight.

Brittyn did so good when the dentist wanted to look in her mouth.

Lexyn wasn't so sure. She put up a small fuss fight but ended up giving in.

Lexyn didn't want to go far after she was done, and the dentist was talking.

At the end, the did so good they were able to go pick out a toy from the treasure chest. And, because my girls seem to run the show no matter where we go, they left that visit with 3 toys each!
We return in 6 months for our second annual visit, but it will be our first actual cleaning. Hopefully we will have 2 more good reports then.

The boys first appointment was when they were about a year old. John had a growth in his mouth that was going to require surgery and within 6 months it was "just gone". Praise the Lord!

John always did well since day one with the dentist but last week when we went for another 6 month check up was Mason's first time not to cry or freak out.

We love our peds dentist!

Glad all went well! The girls are just precious!

Blessings!

Looks like Lexyn and Brittyn did very well! I always loved going to the dentist as a child... I really hope my girls do, too!

I'm glad they did so well! We love that denist. One of the techs, the one with the longer hair, used to be Jayci's preschool teacher. She is super sweet! That reminded me that I need to schedule Jayci's appointment! Hopefully since we have let her become a little more independent on brushing her teeth we still won't have any cavities.
